Packaging is a strategic element for the commercial success of any product, influencing both the profitability and sustainability policies of companies. In primary packaging, sustainability is shown through innovative solutions that combine creativity and functionality, such as the new unlabelled rPET bottles, which are increasingly popular in the food & beverage sector.

A concrete example comes from Portugal, where the company Carvalhelhos, which has always been attentive to sustainability, has adopted a cutting-edge solution thanks to SMI's EBS 8 KL ERGON blow press. This technology makes it possible to produce PET and rPET bottles without plastic or paper labels, thus reducing the environmental impact and improving the recycling process.


An Eco-friendly innovation

The blower installed at Carvalhelhos produces 0,33 L, 0,5 L and 1,5 L bottles in rPET with flat bottoms and without the need for adhesive labels. Thanks to special moulds developed by SMIMEC, branding and product information are engraved directly on the surface of the bottle through a system of embossments and bas-reliefs, which also includes details in braille to improve accessibility.

This solution completely eliminates the use of adhesive and paper or plastic media, thereby simplifying the disposal process and increasing the purity of the recycled PET.
